welcome to the world as seen through my eyes

I don’t purport to be a photographer but I find myself taking more and more photos, mostly mobile, and wanted to formally share my world’s focus in one consolidated location. Hope you enjoy.

iPhone Color Splash Edits

Most of what you'll see on this blog comes from my iPhone. Occasionally I find a great photo which contrasts B&W but brings in natural colors that are in such stark contrast to other elements in the photo that I simply must highlight them. I picked up a demo app a few years ago on my 1st gen iPhone and eventually purchased the full app (every bit worth the minimal cost). Here are a few pics that I've enjoyed modifying with the iPhone Color Splash app
The photo to the left is of our adorable chocolate lab, Abigail (Abby). She captured our hearts from her first days in our home and this picture reflects exactly why we still "ooohh and aaaahh" over her.

I still can't get over this picture and the fact that I snapped it just a year and a half ago. The son on the left has grown so much since then that's it pretty incomprehensible. What I love about the coloration in this photo is the how the focal point is the boys themselves yet the table cloth and restaurant logo helps to center the eyes on the boys rather than pull away from them.

This little gnome is the son of a friend from our church. The scene was a "trunk-or-treat" night at the church parking lot. I'm not sure if he was supposed to be the Travelocity Roaming Gnome or Santa in training but he was certainly adorable. The color of the costume speaks for itself.

One of my favorite photos was supposedly not taken on my iPhone but on my wife's Blackberry. She sent it to me, I saved, modified it and use it as my wallpaper on my iPhone. My little girl with her cute little umbrella in bright Texas colors speaks volumes as she heads on into her elementary school.

Regardless of the weather, this scout is always on his honor and quick to serve. As a younger scout he stands at attention. I decided to capture his whole being in color rather than just the patches as the scout is the central focus of this picture and not just the emblems that signify portions of his being.

As a Varsity Scout, the same young man above continues to serve in his community by placing US Flags on certain holidays. Notice he always works with a younger scout, displaying leadership but working together. The colors of their uniform contribute to the scene but do not overshadow the focal point of the flag.

On a high adventure camp to Uncertain, TX, I snapped this photo upon arrival at Caddo Lake on the shore of our cabin. The lake was a very large swamp featuring water moccasins and alligators. Gratefully I never saw the former and excitedly spotted 2 of the latter. The rich greens of the algae on the water contrast well with the weather worn wood of the out buildings on the water.
